I have been blessed with an abundance of thick kinky hair. As a young girl my hair was shoulder length and usually kept in cornrows or pigtails. I could never manage this glorious mass and have subsequently spent a small fortune to style and maintain this mane. From relaxers, to weaves, Jeri curls braids and every other “trend” to hit the scene. I have had them all. I love re-inventing myself through my hair. It is my self-expression.
In 2005, I had my son. During my pregnancy my hair grew in length but thinned somewhat. After the birth of my son, I lost EVERYTHING! I had to start from scratch. Previously, I had been able to cut my hair in the spring and grow it back by the fall. So losing my hair wasn’t a huge deal to me. However, I found that the task of growing it back was far slower than it had been previously. Also, the texture of my hair was now different. Instead of the kinky hair I had been used to, my hair was now curly when wet. Great! I had always loved wet & wavy weaves.
The biggest change I have noticed is how my hair response to dietary changes and stress. Previously there seemed to be little if any response to these factors. However I have noticed with greater clarity the relationship between my internal health and external appearance, especially as it relates to my hair. My name is Luana and I’m Brazilian. I travel all the time between North America and Brazil for job and personal reasons.
